Am I Such a PIG?
Bearing in mind I will be leaving Melbourne soon, I went on a quest to stuff my stomach with as much of Melbourne's 'fine' cuisine as possible. I believe the quest started weeks back but has intensified in the current week.
Thursday - D and I decided on movie together (Slumdog Millionaire). Since we had such a hearty meal at Old Kingdom the night before, we had our own light meal at home before meeting at Crown for the movie. I had a small serving of soup at 5pm. Obviously, much of it had already been digested by the time we met at the ticket box at nearly 7pm. So, I ordered popcorn and coke to accompany me throughout the movie. D didn't want to have any of it. Movie ended at 9:30 - it was time for coffee. We stopped by Greco, sat at the counter and my craving for potatoes suddenly sank in. I need and want potatoes so badly it was unreal. Wedges, I ordered.
Friday - caught up with D for dinner at Kum Den. It was solely the banana fritters that we were after. But for reasons beyond our control, we had soup, a dish to share and a banana fritter each. The soup and dish were good. But sadly, when it came to the supposed highlight of the meal, it was rather disappointing. The batter wasn't as crispy and golden as it used to be. D also mentioned the serving of honey or maple syrup was a lot lesser although the size of the ice-cream has gotten bigger. Of course, we were stuffed but that didn't deter us from our usual coffee plans after a meal. It was a cold and windy night. Instead of bracing the cold and walking to Lygon St (for a change), we ended up at the same place we so often end up at - Crown. This time round, we decided to patronise Automatic - partly because of the desserts it serves and the mashed potatoes that I seriously craved for. D was very disciplined - she stuck by her skinny latte (although not without some struggle! She has a sweet tooth). As for me - hmmm, I had a 'fat' latte and a bowl of chips. Did I also mention the campari after to wash down all that milk and potatoes? =)
My mission to get fat didn't end on Friday. Saturday - struggled to wake up. But I had to because of the long-awaited yum cha at Shark Fin House in the morning. I LOVE yum cha. D and I thought that the more people we gather for yum cha, the more (and different kinds of food) we will eat but that strangely wasn't the case. I felt full after the meal but wasn't as satisfied as I used to be years back. What happened, people?!
